Victims of the IRS's "Dirty Dozen" Tax Scams Can Be Left Holding the Bag
While the Justice Department goes after the criminals, the IRS penalizes the duped.
Encino, CA - The IRS has announced its list of the "Dirty Dozen" tax scams for the year - "the worst of the worst," according to IRS
Commissioner Doug Shulman. The list includes hiding income offshore, filing false or misleading tax returns, abusing charitable
deductions and retirement plans, reducing taxable income to zero, and preparing returns in a dishonest or fraudulent manner. Such
scams "may look tempting," Shulman noted, "but these fraudulent deals end up hurting people who participate in them."
While some consumers seeking tax help may knowingly engage in illicit or duplicitous activity to avoid paying taxes, others may
simply fall prey to scam artists who pose as legitimate tax preparers who might even inflate and then skim part of an unsuspecting
client's return. While the IRS and the Justice Department go after the criminals who perpetrate these scams, the duped consumer
is left owing all back taxes due plus the interest and penalties that have accrued.
"It's an unfortunate situation that otherwise honest taxpayers end up being penalized so harshly for falling victim to these
scams," notes Michael Rozbruch, founder and CEO of Tax Resolution Services, Co. (TRS). "The best way out is to come forward and
be honest with the IRS and try to negotiate the best possible deal for tax debt relief. But that isn't a negotiation the average
taxpayer should attempt on his or her own."
An experienced tax resolution specialist such as Rozbruch and his team at Tax Resolution Services, Co. including skilled IRS tax
attorneys have seen and heard it all before. They are in a superior position to provide tax help, unraveling the IRS tax problems
inherent in any tax scam and presenting the best possible case to obtain tax debt relief. Tax resolution services can range from
establishing an IRS installment payment plan to resolving back taxes or other tax debt owed to seeking a waiver of the accrued penalties.
"Don't fall prey to these tax scams," IRS Commissioner Shulman cautions on the IRS website. Those consumers who have may want to seek
the help of professional tax-resolution specialists to mitigate the damage to their tax standing as well as their pocketbooks."
