Michael Rozbruch: Yes because the IRS is a federal agency, there are 3 people permitted to practice before the IRS. You have to be an active licensed member of the state bar, a certified public accountant actively licensed or an enrolled agent. No matter where they live, they can represent the tax payer before the IRS is all 50 states. And we have a lot of clients on the East Coast with a big concentration in the Boston area. Also the South amd New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania – we have a lot of clients in those states.
AB: The main reason why I asked is a lot of people don’t know that with the IRS that they can go to a company like yours in order to seek the help that they need. A lot of people feel as if the must go to a CPA or financial person that is right there in their state.
MR: I’ve got to tell you that 50% of the people that end up retaining us have tried going with their CPA or lawyer because if you don’t do this day in and day out, you don’t know all the loop holes, tricks and tools. And I am also a certified tax resolution specialist, so I had to take a special exam and have a number of ears experience in this field and you have to have a lot of continuing education in this field.
There are only about 120 of us in the entire country who actually do this as a living. In other words, we’re not a CPA firm that has a tax resolution service of the side. We are a tax resolution company that employs attorneys, CPAs and agents and a lot of support staff. We’re a firm of 50 people here in Los Angeles and we help people all over the country.
AB: Like I said, that’s the one thing that I wanted our listeners to know, that if you need this kind of help, this is available and you may have to go out of your area to get that
MR: Yes, 90% of our business is done over the telephone. Due to technology, today most of our correspondents and meetings with the IRS are via telephone, Fed Ex, email etc. there’s very few times except audits, if it’s a medium small audit or medium sized audit out of state we probably wont take that because those need to have face to face meet with the revenue agent.
Any collection related matter that is a non-audit issue could be handled over the phone. I’d say over a third of our clientele is out of California. Each state is different, and we have specialists that we have segregated to different parts of the country that work out of my office.
