Weekly Tax News Round Up- IRS “dirty dozen” tax scams, TaxMan, and Opportunist Magazine.
Happy Friday everyone, time for another tax news round up as we head into the long Presidents Day weekend.
Tax scams and fraud continue to dominate the tax headlines this week. The IRS released its annual list of tax scams to avoid, and here are a few articles that go into further detail on tax fraud and how you can prevent being a victim:
- In the Wall Street Journal’s personal-finance blog: IRS Warns on ‘Dirty Dozen’ Tax Scams for 2012. This contains every dirty move scammers are plotting from identity theft to abuse of charitable organizations and deductions and more.
- On MSNBC’s Life.Inc: IRS faces surge in identity theft tax fraud. Identity theft is at the top of the IRS Dirty Dozen Tax Scams for 2012. The IRS estimates 404,000 people were victimized by identity theft tax fraud from mid-2009 to the end of 2011.
- On Forbes: 12 Tax Scams to Avoid Like the Plague
