A recent article written by Michael McDonald of Bloomberg News, reports on IRS’ stepped up enforcement of non-profit colleges and universities across America to properly report income from all revenue streams. The American academic community is seeing first-hand the strong arm tactics of the IRS including the beloved Harvard University and the hotel it owns overlooking the Charles River.

The creation in 2010 of Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) set into motion serious U.S. efforts to combat tax evasion by U.S. taxpayers with investments in offshore accounts. Not only do FATCA regulations have

Credit Suisse Group, the second largest bank in Switzerland, announced last Tuesday, November 8 that it was handing over to the IRS the names of offshore bank account holders suspected of tax evasion. Credit Suisse, (the second Swiss bank in the last two years) caved under IRS pressure to collect from financial institutions signifying, quite possibly, the beginning of the end of tax shelters.
Given the aggressive nature of US tax

On his new channel, GBTV, multi-media personality Glenn Beck gives a rousing “thumbs up” to Tax Resolution Services as the best firm in the business to settle back tax issues. Beck, no fan of the IRS and never shy to share his opinion, concludes that the IRS is the most brutal collection agency on the planet. They can shut your business down without a court order.
Glenn Beck’s main points include:

These are challenging financial times for many people. What makes this economic recession so unique is that it has gone on for so long and transcended so many income levels. In it’s wake, it has left an increasing number of consumers more financially vulnerable than ever before. These tax distressed individuals, fearful and often not sure what to do have avoided delinquent tax issues and are finding themselves on the

The US economy has been slow to recover from the recession, and as a result, many American homeowners have lost their jobs and are unable to find new employment. These same folks, some out of work indefinitely, are struggling to pay their bills and keep a roof over their head. Households who find themselves this far underwater and unable to pay their mortgage may feel forced to consider home foreclosure

In less than a month after the voluntary offshore bank declaration amnesty deadline expired, the results are showing that tax collection efforts from once elusive off-shore account holders appears to be working. A recent Reuters News Article – America’s Rich Losing Tussle with Taxman dated September 30, revealed that since 2008, the IRS has been successful at cracking down on off-shore tax shelters and going after Swiss banks (initially) and

I contributed to a recent article written by Tax Analysts Document Service regarding the unscrupulous practices of some tax negotiation-resolution firms (the article was called Tax Debt Representation Industry Continues to Operate in the Shadows). I talked about the reality that some tax resolution firms have negatively affected not only vulnerable taxpayers but also damaged the reputation of the viable tax debt representation industry and set the Federal Trade Commission

I blog about tax evasion cases almost daily on my tax blog! Why, you may ask? Because I am trying to highlight that no matter how rich, or how poor, how famous, or non-famous, someone is does not matter to the IRS. The IRS wants their taxes and they will come after you, if not today, than some time in the future. Who wants to live constantly looking over their

This week, BusinessWeek reported that AstraZeneca, a U.K. pharmaceutical giant, agreed to settle a U.S. tax dispute and as a result raised its profit target for this year. This is great news not only from a consumer’s point of view, showing that settling back taxes and IRS debt not only brings much needed tax relief, but as a corporation, settling tax issues can reflect positively throughout your business.

This just in: Los Angeles Lakers’ forward Lamar Odom is suing the IRS for over $87,000 in tax bills from 2007–by himself.
