Armed with a large federal budget and under pressure to close the whopping $345 billion tax deficit, the IRS has increased audits by 11% last year-targeting both consumers and business owners.
Last week I sat down on the Big Biz Show to continue the Tax Day Countdown and to share some top red flags that trigger IRS audits. So here are some things to watch out for:

While many business owners are struggling in the current economic climate, I want to emphasize that in addition to abnormal tax deductions, there are a number of other things that can trigger IRS audits, penalties, and potential jail time.
CBS Interactive Business Network BNET recently published an article, “How to Stay Out of Tax Hell” in which I shared important tax help advice for business owners, including how failure to pay

I recently mentioned the new effort by the IRS to help consumers with delinquent back taxes avoid tax liens and become compliant in these economically challenging times.
While these tax relief efforts from the IRS would seem to be welcome news, we tax resolution experts have little hope that these changes will result in much of a break for the consumers who need it most.

The IRS strikes again. This time, Hollywood bad boy Al Pacino and Martin Scorsese are getting slammed with the expensive tax bills.
According to The Boston Herald, Al Pacino owes the IRS $188,000 in unpaid back taxes. Pacino claims that he did not mean to cheat Uncle Sam, but rather that his former business manager Kenneth Starr was responsible.
A similar story is heard from Martin Scorsese, who owes a whopping $2.85

This February the IRS made a major announcement regarding their new effort aimed at helping taxpayers who are struggling. These new policies and programs will be put in place to 1) assist consumers in paying their back taxes and 2) avoididing tax liens.
This isn’t the first time the IRS has tried to be generous with taxpayers by offering them a ‘break‘. This IRS announcement nearly boasts that this is another

As I continue my weekly appearances on the Big Biz Show for the Tax Resolution Tax Day Countdown, I sat down last week for a chat about the latest IRS announcement to offer tax relief for struggling consumers by making changes to the lien process.
We’ve heard this before: the IRS is kinder and gentler by promising to speed up tax relief for homeowners who are looking to refinance (2008) and

There’s been a lot of talk lately about how the IRS is getting strong financial support from the Obama administration to step up enforcement efforts in order to close the $345 billion tax gap.
Recently, four Swiss bankers have been indicted by the U.S. government for plotting to help wealthy Americans to evade income taxes with the use of offshore bank accounts. According to Forbes, “the defendants were in a plot

Recently the IRS announced its new efforts to help struggling consumers by making changes to the lien process that are meant to give people “a break.”
But what does that really mean? Are consumers really going to have an easier time financially now that the IRS adjusted their lien process? You may be asking yourself: wait, aren’t the IRS supposed to be going after my money and not helping me? Is

The IRS is giving foreign account holders another chance to get back into the system with their Limited Amnesty disclosure program to expire in August 2011.
Last time the IRS offered this amnesty program in 2009, some 15,000 consumers with undisclosed offshore accounts fessed up, paying the IRS a collective $400 million in revenue. Hoping for a repeat, the IRS is offering the limited amnesty program again this year to give

I was recently interviewed by BusinessNewsDaily for their CEO Roundtable “How Do You Innovate?” and I enjoyed sharing my thoughts on how innovation plays a part in my business.
Small businesses rely on innovation – and by “innovation” it doesn’t necessarily mean technology. Whether in your office, on your laptop or Blackberry, or your day-to-day management, innovation is the wheel that drives a business forward. However, how this translates into the daily issues facing

Recently, I appeared on the Big Biz Show with Russ and Sully to continue my Tax Day Countdown with what I call the “IRS Dirty Dozen”–which is a list of tax frauds that the IRS is looking to catch and penalize for.
You may have heard of some of these in the past or on the news; taxpayers and tax preparers are getting themselves in some serious trouble by trying to
