Effective immediately the IRS will be allowing tax relief to the innocent spouses of those with serious IRS tax problems and back taxes. The new rules will help protect partners, especially those from abusive relationships, by granting relief to those who could have been deemed liable for a spouse’s tax problems. The Wall Street Journal’s Laura Saunders explains how the new rules differ from the original rule of a 2

I recently came across a post on The Global Resolution from the Thorn Law Group. The Global Resolution is the agreement the U.S. government and European banks are currently working on in a continued effort to put a stop to offshore tax evasion.
How will it work:
1) Any foreign bank under U.S. investigation will pay a fine to the government
2) Said bank will disclose U.S. client names to the government
3) U.S. government

Attention all consumers with undisclosed offshore bank accounts: now is the time to act if you want to reduce your IRS penalties!
Due to the highly successful voluntary disclosure program last year, the IRS re-launched their offshore bank account amnesty program for 2011, due to expire in August.
I’m taking this opportunity while we still have some time to urge consumers with undisclosed foreign bank accounts to hurry and take advantage of

Tax scams are vicious. Aside from the unethical motives that drive a firm to pose as a tax relief agency and target consumers who are in tax debt, stressed out and unsure where to turn for advise, it is downright low. Unfortunately tax relief scams are a common topic these days. With the increasing number of fraudulent ‘tax relief’ firms out there, there is a growing need to fight back

One of the most effective ways to eliminate back taxes is through the Expiration of Back Taxes: Statute of Limitations on IRS Collections tax resolution option. This option is particularly useful for eliminating tax debt if the back taxes have been assessed against you years ago.
You may be surprised to hear that it is a fact that the IRS is prohibited, by law, from collecting on expired back taxes.
Generally, the

The good old days of “safe tax havens” are over.
We saw this last year with the bust of UBS and the thousands of taxpayers who owed unpaid back taxes hidden in Swiss bank accounts. They all paid their dues–in the form of heavy IRS penalties.
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, titled “Sacre-Bleu! The Foreign Account Penalty“, taxpayers are warned against non-compliance with FBAR restrictions. According to the article, “FBAR

Don’t let Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Doug Shulman hear you use the “audit lottery” phrase. That’s right: you may have heard it at a dinner party or chatting with co-workers. There’s an ongoing myth that the IRS approaches who they audit much like how anyone wins a lottery. By luck. And they’re all wrong–an IRS audit is not random at all. In fact, it follows a system.

Now that the tax deadline is over, if you are facing audits or are behind in paying back taxes or even if you’re filing late returns, you may want to take your medicine and reach out to the IRS. This can be done either in person or on the telephone.
But before you pick up the phone, know this: negotiating with the government agency without expert representation can be tricky at

Many consumers out there may feel that being rich and wealthy spares you from having to worry about taxes and the IRS coming after you. However, in recent years the case has been quite on the contrary. The IRS have been gradually increasing their audits of high income consumers. Wealthier taxpayers may find themselves being audited as the IRS increases their enforcement efforts and cracks down on back taxes owed

I was recently quoted in the Fiscal Times article “Tax Bill Blues: What to do if You Can’t Pay the IRS.” Writer Emma Johnson explores how American consumers can feel paralyzed with anxiety when they are looking at a big tax bill but just don’t have the cast to pay it. She also emphasizes the importance of taking action – because ignoring the problem is only going to make the Internal

You may recall hearing about the UBS-US deal last year when the IRS uncovered thousands of offshore bank account holders who weren’t paying taxes on their foreign funds.
Well, that was just the beginning. The IRS has moved onto unveiling more tax evaders from other countries like India. The IRS is moving to develop a system of regulations that will require foreign banks to give the government more information about those
