Insight into Most Serious Tax Problems from from National Taxpayer Advocate

According to National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) handled more than 274,000 taxpayer assistance orders in FY 2008.
The TAS was created by Congress to help taxpayers resolve their tax problems with the IRS and ensuring that taxpayer rights are protected in each case. Tax Fraud Identity Victims Deserve Better

A Treasury Department watchdog said in a report released April 9 that the IRS must do more to combat tax fraud identity theft, asserting that the IRS rarely pursues or prosecutes fraudulent tax returns filed by identity thieves.
