If you can’t afford your tax bill this year, know that the IRS offers payment options for struggling taxpayers.
While individuals are urged to file their tax returns and and pay any taxes owed by April 15, the agency is aware that the economic downturn has made this difficult for many people.
Taxpayers who do not file their tax returns by the April 15 deadline may be subject to a failure-to-file penalty.

I recently appeared on The Chuck Morse Show on WBNW 1120AM (Boston, MA) to encourage taxpayers to file thier taxes by April 15 - even if they don’t have the money to pay the taxes they owe to Uncle Sam.
There’s going to be a lot of people caught up in this recession, and they’ll quickly find out that they owe taxes for 2008, if they don’t know that already. I

It’s tax time and the April 15 deadline is making many individuals and small businesses anxious. In this challenging economy, many people will be unable to pay their full tax bill on time.
I was recently interviewed by Entrepreneur magazine on options for struggling taxpayers and I offered expert tax tips on how to make a deal with the IRS.

I recently appeared on a “Hey! Are you Talking to Me?” with Paul Varga on WMLN 91.5 in Milton, MA. We talked about what taxpayers need to do if they can’t afford to pay their 2008 tax bill and how people in tax trouble can get help!
Most people get into trouble with the IRS by not filing when they should. On average, our tax relief clients come to us with

Listen to my interview with Mind Your Bizness Show host Danielle Hampson. On “Talk to the Tax Expert,” we discuss what to do if you find yourself in financial difficulty and can’t afford to pay your tax bill this year.
In 2009, we can expect more tax audits and IRS actions against tax cheats. It’s a remarkable statistic, but 50% of the American tax paying public either haven’t filed appropriate

It’s always great to hear from satisfied clients after we’ve helped them resolve their tax problems. We recently helped a taxpayer in Southern California gain his financial livelihood back. He was sick and unable to pay his back taxes. We were able to negotiate a penalty abatement on his behalf.

The IRS issued a statement saying that they are taking steps to help financially distressed taxpayers. Depending on the circumstances, taxpayers in hardship situations may be able to adjust payments for back taxes, avoid defaulting on payment agreements or possibly defer collection action.
In other words, for taxpayers who have lost their job, seen a significant decline in their income, been forced to close down their business - the IRS “may”

I wanted to take a moment to mention some of our remarkable client success stories from 2008.
Matt C. owed the IRS nearly $40,000 in back taxes when he came to us. A year after he retained us, he won an Offer in Compromise settlement for $1,500. And when the negotiated settlement was paid, all of Matt C.’s federal tax liens were released.
We also helped a business owner whose payroll tax

As the year is drawing to a close, I’d like to thank all our amazing clients who have come to us so we can help them solve their IRS problems. In the 11 years that I have been running Tax Resolution Services, I have helped save clients well in excess of $35 million while helping them turn their financial lives around.
This client testimonial comes from Bill, who was really sick

The filing deadlines, regarding the 2008 tax year, for small businesses are as follows:
April 15, 2009 for sole proprietors that are reported on a Schedule C or Form 1040
April 15, 2009 for LLCs and Partnerships
March 15, 2009 for corporations that file Form 1120 or 1120S
If you need to file for an extension, keep in mind that an extension of time to file is NOT an extension of time to pay.

A FedEx pilot, charged with six counts of income tax evasion, pleaded guilty to one of those counts.
According to the indictment, Michael D. Mason, 51, of Cordova, Tenn., failed to file income tax returns for calendar years 2000 to 2004. Additionally, the indictment alleges that Mason failed to pay the IRS income tax due and owing and concealed or attempted to conceal his true and correct income from the IRS.

Yesterday I wrote about Charles J. O’Byrne, the top government aide who claims that his 5 years of tax debt amounting to $300,000 was a by-product of his bouts with depression and a condition that makes it difficult for him to fill out his tax returns.
Tax evaders have been claiming to suffer from “failure to file syndrome” for years - even though it’s really not likely to hold up in

New York Governor David A. Paterson’s top aide recently made headlines for his failure to file and pay his taxes for 5 years, from 2001 to 2005. While Charles J. O’Byrne has paid the $300,000 in back and federal taxes he owed, his lawyers said that the aide had problems with depression and suffered from failure to file syndrome, “a condition that made it difficult for him to fill out
