In an effort to curtail corporate financial irresponsibility, the Obama administration has been working fervently to control white-collar tax cheats. The media has successfully portrayed the businesses that have overseas bank accounts as “suspicious” and potentially guilty of tax evasion. In 2001, there was a $345 billion tax gap–most of which can be accounted for by the underground economy of tax evaders who have strategically utilized foreign tax havens and

There are currently 35 million taxpayers in trouble with the IRS. When I appeared on LA Talk Radio with T.J. McCormack earlier this week we talked about income tax relief advice for the 15% of the population of tax paying adults that are in trouble with the IRS.
We’re past the April 15th tax deadline, but this is when people start thinking about the tax returns they haven’t filed. If you’re

I was recently interviewed by Thom Senzee for the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. We talked about companies that utilize online technologies like webinars and online video to reach customers and educated the public.
In addition to this blog, I Twitter (@taxresolution), author tax help articles, and use YouTube to share helpful income tax relief videos. We use these online channels to educate users on some lesser known facts about tax

I recently appeared as the tax expert on Financial Lifeline Radio with hosts Dave Harbison and John March. We talked about all the tax buzz this year. It’s almost become a cultural movement in this bad economy with everyone struggling with tax debt - we’re seeing all the tax tea parties and stimulus packages making headlines.
Not to mention, it seems like you must have tax problems to be nominated by the

A recent Los Angeles Times article examined the resentment that’s brewing among Americans who feel that there is a double standard applied to delinquent taxpayers, which appears to favor powerful people like recent Cabinet nominees.
The most highly criticized nominee has been Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, who owed $34,000 in back taxes and didn’t pay all of it until Obama nominated him.
His excuse? Geithner told the committee that he prepared his

I recently blogged about how frivolous arguments topped the IRS Dirty Dozen list of most common tax schemes. And in this bad economy, there will be more individuals maintaining frivolous arguments for not paying their taxes.
While many Americans were paying their taxes on April 15, there’s a group of citizens known as tax defiers, deniers or protesters who cite many different reasons refusing to pay their income taxes.
Their frivolous arguments

It’s tax day! I know people don’t file their tax returns for different reasons and in this economy, and many Americans may opt to not file because they don’t have the funds to pay the taxes owed.
If you can’t afford to pay your taxes, there are payment options for tax relief!
Additionally, what taxpayers may not know is that failure to file tax returns may be construed as a criminal act

Failure to file your legally required tax returns can cause you to incur significant penalties and may be construed as a criminal (misdemeanor and potentially a felony!) act by the IRS. However, there are circumstances where an individual may have “reasonable cause” for not filing or paying taxes due (divorce, job loss, death in the family, illness, etc).
The law allows for the abatement of penalties for reasonable cause, which is

The IRS urges taxpayers who need additional time to complete their tax returns to e-file their requests for extensions by April 15. All taxpayers can e-file a Form 4868, Automatic Extension of Time to File at no cost from a home computer. This is a convenient and secure way to receive confirmation of your extension for your records.
The extension gives taxpayers 6 more months or until October 15 to file

I recently appeared on The Chuck Morse Show on WBNW 1120AM (Boston, MA) to encourage taxpayers to file thier taxes by April 15 - even if they don’t have the money to pay the taxes they owe to Uncle Sam.
There’s going to be a lot of people caught up in this recession, and they’ll quickly find out that they owe taxes for 2008, if they don’t know that already. I

I recently appeared on a “Hey! Are you Talking to Me?” with Paul Varga on WMLN 91.5 in Milton, MA. We talked about what taxpayers need to do if they can’t afford to pay their 2008 tax bill and how people in tax trouble can get help!
Most people get into trouble with the IRS by not filing when they should. On average, our tax relief clients come to us with

According to National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) handled more than 274,000 taxpayer assistance orders in FY 2008.
The TAS was created by Congress to help taxpayers resolve their tax problems with the IRS and ensuring that taxpayer rights are protected in each case. Olson also recently addressed the authority of the National Taxpayer Advocate to help taxpayers navigate their issues through the IRS. Olson revealed

It’s always great to hear from satisfied clients after we’ve helped them resolve their tax problems. We recently helped a taxpayer in Southern California gain his financial livelihood back. He was sick and unable to pay his back taxes. We were able to negotiate a penalty abatement on his behalf.
Peace of mind. Shelly has been outstanding and very helpful. I have Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer and Shelly has always had
