Sacramento Car Wash Owner Sends IRS Check for 4 Cents
Sacramento car wash owner Aaron Zeff settled his IRS debt by sending in a check to the government for the 4 cents he owed. Read more about Aaron Zeff’s visit from the IRS.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Aaron felt the IRS agent visit for the small amount was “inappropriate” and that it was incredible how much penalties and interest was generated on solely 4 cents in tax debt.
SacBee reports that “what most likely happened is Harv’s was late on a large quarterly payroll tax filing. Penalties and interest then were assessed. When the late payment was received, it wiped out all but 4 cents of the payroll obligation, but left the interest and penalties in place.”
This goes to show how even the smallest IRS debt can cost you more than it’s worth a few years down the line. Additionally, it doesn’t look very good for business to have two dark-suited IRS agents show up at your work while you’re serving your customers.
