More Americans Need Tax Relief from the IRS

More people owe IRS back taxes today than ever before due to the economic conditions facing the country.  This long extended recession has resulted in millions losing their jobs and being unable to find suitable employment to generate a paycheck. To make up for this, many families are using their savings and 401k accounts to live on and incurring penalties as a result.

With poor economic conditions persisting for so long these same taxpayers, often through no fault of their own, are facing a home foreclosure or business loss making a financially stressful situation even more complicated.  In the video below, I highlighted the financial struggles currently facing many Americans and how they can resolve them:

A Poor Economy Affects Tax Payment Ability

As we have stated before in other posts, one in every six Americans has a tax issue with many having between 4-11 years of unfiled taxes. Personal and business incomes have suffered so much recently, that millions are unable to pay their tax liabilities. For these already stretched households to discover, the IRS, also financially strapped, is becoming even more determined to collect every tax penny due even from the most vulnerable.

Jobs Are Plentiful – in Tax Collection

In spite of the soft economy, the IRS has beefed up collection activities and hired between four to five thousand more revenue agents and revenue officers to access and collect past due taxes. The government is getting larger and spending more than it takes in, so the money has to be found and extracted from somewhere. Meanwhile, individuals and businesses struggling to make their IRS payments are catching the receiving end of these stepped up collection efforts to retrieve their back taxes in order to shrink the tax gap; the difference between taxes owed and taxes paid. According to a study released this year by Jacksonville University, professor Richard Cebula and University of Wisconsin professor Edgar Feige, the estimated the tax gap stands at a half a trillion dollars; a source for government revenue and not to be ignored.

As the government continues with their aggressive methods, it is only a matter of time until nearly every taxpayer with back taxes is approached by the IRS. It is best to handle this tax problem before you get the IRS call by creating a plan to address any and all these tax issues because they won’t go away and only get more expensive over time.
