IRS Appeal from Famous Rapper: MC Hammer Makes Plea to IRS for Tax Help with $625,000 in Back Taxes

MC Hammer is appealing the $625,000 in back taxes that the tax collection agency is seeking from the rapper.

If you think the IRS has filed a claim against you that is wrong or unfair, you can file an IRS Appeal to let the IRS know that you don’t agree with their claim and are seeking a hearing to change the IRS decision. However, you must file an Appeals request within a certain legal time frame and follow the IRS guidelines for an Appeal request to be valid.

According to the Wall Street Journal:

Hammer (real name: Stanley Burrell) issued a statement Wednesday decrying the agency’s bid to collect $625,000 in back taxes he allegedly owes from 15 years ago. Hammer, who filed for bankruptcy protection in 1996 and saw his assets liquidated, says he’s already paid the IRS all the taxes he owed. But in the past year, he claims the IRS “wrongly” decided that he owed more. The rapper-turned businessman (he has his own Dance Jam record label and currently appears on the A&E Network show “Hammertime”) is vowing to fight the IRS’ “nonsense.”

“I am contesting this claim through my tax attorneys and my case is making its way through the IRS appeal process,” Hammer said. “I hope to be successful.”
