Kelley, of Salem, S.D., was originally indicted by a federal grand jury on Dec. 3, 2008, for filing a false income tax return, impeding the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and 16 counts of uttering fictitious obligations. The owner of several bars in Scottsdale, Ariz., was sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of tax evasion for the year 2003. The total amount evaded was more than $500,000.
Brian C. Roehrich, 40, of Phoenix, attempted to evade the income tax due while he was the president and sole owner of several bars and nightclubs.
At the time of his guilty plea, Roehrich admitted that

If you deliberately evade taxes by underreporting your income, you cannot always blame your accountant for the discrepancy. Underreporting income to skimp paying taxes is criminal and the penalties can be financially debilitating depending on the amount you owe.

Jon Dale Adams of Jackson, Miss., was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be followed by one year of supervised release, for filing a false federal income tax return in 2000. Adams was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

The Offer in Compromise (OIC) application process has been a challenging and burdensome process for many applicants. The privilege of being approved for a OIC closely resembles receiving amnesty from the IRS; you can save thousands of dollars in back taxes, IRS tax penalties and interest.

Terry Bowling, 62, of Huntington, W.V., was sentenced to one year and a day in prison. He was also ordered to pay in excess of $386,000 in restitution to the IRS.
