Blogger Uncovers Al Franken’s Tax Problems
Funnyman and U.S. Senate Candidate Al Franken told the Associated Press he’s paying about $70,000 in back income taxes and penalties he’s racked up in 17 states since 2003.
Franken is a former Saturday Night Live cast member known for his liberal commentary whose his recent IRS troubles are certain to threaten his Minnesota Senate candidacy.
The remarkable thing about this case is the man who has sent Franken’s campaign reeling. Republican blogger Michael Brodkorb, who uncovered the overdue taxes, and documented them in a furious political assault on Franken. It’s all posted on Brodkorb’s popular site Minnesota Democrats Exposed.
According to the Associated Press, Brodkorb scooped the traditional media by detailing the extensive bookkeeping problems that ultimately prompted Franken, this week, to pay about $70,000 in back taxes to 17 states.
Luckily, Franken is reportedly worth between $4.3 million and $9.9 million.
